Information for Rabbit Owners

We Are Rabbit Advocates

At our practice, rabbits are treated with the same level of care, respect and clinical expertise as cats and dogs. We follow the Rabbit Welfare Association & Fund (RWAF) guidelines to ensure every rabbit receives the best possible experience, from routine visits to advanced medical care.

RWAF-Aligned Rabbit Welfare Standards

Rabbit-Friendly Facilities

  • We provide quiet, predator-free spaces for rabbits, using separate waiting areas or consulting rooms.
  • Carriers are kept raised off the floor and covered for security.
  • Hospitalised rabbits are housed away from dogs and ferrets, following RWAF recommendations.

Skilled Rabbit Medicine & Surgery

Our vets and nurses have experience and additional training in rabbit-specific anaesthesia, analgesia, behaviour and husbandry, ensuring safe, species-appropriate care.

  • We use rabbit-safe anaesthetic protocols.
  • Pain management follows current RWAF and UK veterinary best practice.
  • Post-operative care is tailored to meet the needs of prey species.

Stress-Free Handling

We always prioritise rabbits’ emotional wellbeing:

  • Low-stress handling and minimal restraint
  • Quiet rooms for examinations
  • Bonded partners kept together whenever possible
  • Soft bedding, hiding places, and warm environments for comfort
